In virtual environment you can run Windows Server 2012 guest OS on these hypervisors:

  • Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V
(due to scalability limitation of  Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V  it is highly recommended to use Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V )
  • VMware vSphere 5.1
  • VMware vSphere 5.0 (min U1, U2)

High Availability with Microsoft Windows Server Failover Cluster is off course fully supported and fully integrated in SAP sapinst installation software!

Windows Server 2012 brought huge improvements in compare to Windows Server 2008 R2, in the area of scalability, server virtualization, business continuity, high availability, networking and storage.

Many thanks to SAP Microsoft Platforms group for making this happen, specially to Jason Kafka for driving overall Windows Server 2012 part and Claudia Baur for driving virtualization part.
